Glycolic Peel & Spicy Food Reaction: Understanding Skin Irritation

Question
QUESTION: I applied a mild glycolic peel product on my face and didn't have any redness or irritation.  We ate very hot and spicy food that night which contained chipotle hot sauce.  Now I have pinkie size burns on the upper lip of my mouth, where a spoon or rim of a water bottle would rest while eating and drinking.  It doesn't hurt much but feels tight and looks red, irritated and puffy. It might have some tiny, tiny bumps but I can't see that close up.

Is there anything I can apply to help it heal?  I read that many people have used Vasoline and some mention Emu Oil, but wanted to ask for your opinion.

ANSWER: Dear Amber,

I would suggest trying Tamanu Nut Oil.  It is considered especially healing, nutritive and anti-inflammatory. It is often used as an excellent addition to any wound healing formula in the care of herpes lesions and fever blisters.

You can order this online or find it at your local health food store or Whole Foods type co-ops.

Best of luck,

QUESTION: Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Are you suggesting I have herpes? I really thought the spicy food (make-you-cry spicy food) burned the skin above my lip because it happened after the peel.

Answer
Heavens no, Amber. I was just explaining that Tamanu oil is often used in medications for blister type skin conditions. ie., burns, fever blisters, herpes, etc. Bio Oil is something that comes to mind also, that would possibly help. Also available online.  Good luck!!
