Glycolic & Lactic Acid Peel: Safety & Frequency - Expert Advice

Question
I purchased a Glycolic Acid (30%)/Lactic Acid (60%) home chemical peel and have used it for the maximum 10 minutes suggested.  I've experienced no skin irritation or redness.  My question is, as long as it causes no irritation, can I use it more often than recommended, and if so, will this hasten the results?

Thanks so much!

Answer
I can't tell you that it is safe to use this peel more often that the manufacturer suggests, because I have no experience with it. I don't think it will hasten results. What results are you going for? It can take many skin cell cycles to shed sun damage, soften acne scars or clear skin. Every so often people call me after a peel and say they saw no peeling and I have to reassure them that that's ok. It's hard to see small changes when you look at yourself every day. That's why my clinic takes pictures of people clean-faced at every visit. Also people with oily skin in humid climates see less peeling than people with drier skin. More is not always better, also you can cause damage to your skin if you use it more frequently than recommended and thin out the skin so the peel could burn you causing post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation, which can take many months to reverse.
