Bleaching After Relaxers/Perms: A Hair Color Guide

Question
QUESTION: Hey, I know that you said that you don't know about relaxers, but I will ask this anyway, I got my hair relaxed in a perm a couple weeks ago (instead of twisting it, they smoothed it down). I was wondering how long I should wait after that before I bleach my entire head, and then how long after bleaching I should wait to dye it blue?
Thank you!

ANSWER: if it was a relaxer, sodium hydroxide, you cannot use bleach ever. if it was a thio perm, it is up to the condition of your hair, but mixing the two is a recipe for a chemical haircut. both chemicals break the bonds in the hair, and if you put bleach on hair that has been treated with either of those chemicals, the hair breaks down very rapidly, becoming mushy and eventually breaking off.maybe you can get a blue wig for those times you feel like having blue hair, and keep it to one caustic process at a time.

QUESTION: So then does that mean that even after a couple of weeks, there is still a risk of it messing up? Also, does not using shampoo, only conditioner help at all a week in advance of bleaching it?

Answer
the effects of a chemical relaxer are permenent until they grow out. using bleach over a relaxer will cause extreme damage, trust me on this. once the bonds in the hair are broken, they are broken. there is no conditioner that will make bleaching safe on relaxed hair. do a test strand and you'll see what i mean.
