Another holiday, another reason for changing your nail art! Today’s nail art tutorial is inspired by the beautiful colors of the ocean. And we love how this nail art evokes an ocean scene, with just a hint of white- and blue -foliage pattern.
To create this fairly simple design, I have used different shades of blue and completed by adding a feminine touch of flowers to it. Here is a step by step guide to getting the fun and fabulous blue nail art look at home. Let’s start:
As usual start your nail art by applying a good layer of base coat on your nails to prevent colors from staining your nail beds. Let the base coat dry.
Once done, use a piece of sponge, dab a light blue polish on the upper two third of your nails, leave your base bare. Repeat if needed. Preferably use the sponge used to stuff sofas as they have a low absorbing capacity which helps to avoid polish wastage. You can use any sponge, makeup sponge, washing up sponge or even sofa sponge.
Now, use a dark blue polish and dab it directly down on to the polish a few times. Keep dabbing lightly until you get a gradient effect.
For the next step, use a silver glitter polish. Apply a coat to the entire nail to help the colors blend well. Tip: Ensure each layer is completely dry before sponging up and down; otherwise you will start smudging the layers and ruin the whole thing.
Repeat the above step to give a glittery look to the base. Let it dry thoroughly. You can also skip the glitter polish and go for a regular topcoat. The main aim is to blend the colours and it also gives an even base for drawing further designs.
Use a white nail polish and a dotting tool or toothpick; make five dots in the top side corner of your nails to resemble a flower. Follow this with three diagonal dots as shown in the picture. If you do not have a dotting tool, you can make the dots with an old ball point pen also. It works equally well, but it might give you smaller flowers.
Now make centres for the flowers with the dark blue polish and a dotting tool. You can also use a blue rhinestone in its place. Seal everything with topcoat. And you are done.
Clean up all the excess nail paint by using a Q-tip dipped in acetone.
If you are adventurous enough, you can also try making the flower with white rhinestones. Or even better, try using nail art stickers to save time and effort. Modify the design and colors as per your liking and have fun!
