Chinese New Year is round the corner and what better occasion to try and create some amazing Chinese nail art? Chinese nail designs are popular around the world. Just like Japanese nail designs, Chinese nail art too is created with the help of numerous nail deco materials. You will also see certain characters and fonts being used! Celebrating the ancient Chinese culture through nail art – awesome, isn’t it? You can draw simple Chinese fonts or better still samurai, dragons, lanterns or cherry blossoms – anything that represents the beautiful Chinese culture!
Now, don’t freak out! Creating Chinese nail art is easier than you think! Don’t believe me? Today I will show you how to create an easy Chinese nail design with Chinese font and a dragon head for the thumb. Follow along and you’ll see how easy it actually is!
Use a base coat to prevent your nails from staining and chipping. If your nails are dry or prone to breakage, then you MUST use a base coat. However, if you have strong nails then you can skip the base coat. Let it dry completely. Once dry, use a skin coloured nail polish as a second protective layer and to make the nails more opaque. Next, use 2 coats of your favourite shade of orange nail polish. Let it dry completely.
Take your nail art brush and dip in pink acrylic color. Draw some flowers like I have shown above but remember to keep enough space at the centre of the nails.
Take your dotting tools or nail art brush and yellow acrylic paint and put a dot at the centre of the flowers. Next, take white acrylic color in a palette and use your thin nail art brush to draw the Chinese fonts. I have drawn the words “Happy Holidays” in Chinese, which is pronounced as Jiérì kuàilè and written as节日快乐. You don’t need to learn Chinese to draw nice Chinese fonts! You can Google any words and its Chinese translations and use those fonts on your finger nails. Refer the picture above to see what I mean.
I have drawn a few more flowers to fill up the spaces on the sides. I have used yellow acrylic paint to draw the petals and have put a pink dot at the centre of the flowers.
Now we will draw the dragon’s face on the thumb. Draw the outlines like I have shown above. Use your thin nail art brush and acrylic paint to do this.
Use yellow acrylic paint for the eye brows and the nose. Use black for the inside of the mouth and also for outlining the eyes.
Give the eyeballs a black colour with the help of a toothpick. Use white colour to draw some sharp teeth and red color to make a long pointed tongue. It should look something like the picture above.
After your design is complete, let it dry properly otherwise the acrylic colors may bleed on application of the top coat. When it is dry, use one or two nice layers of a good quality top coat to seal in your design.
