DIY Hair Gel Recipes: Natural & Customizable Options

Hair gels have been widely used to control hair and hold it in a place. Not only that, there are different types of hair gels as per the hair types and textures we want. Most of the people need hair gels badly before stepping out to keep their hair manageable whether their hair is curly, wavy or straight. But what if the regular usage of your store bought chemical filled hair gel damages your hair? Of course they do, eventually. There are some easiest, as well as very affordable methods of making hair gel at our home in minutes. Hair gel preparation at home is dead easy than you imagine. Even kids at your home will prepare this in minutes. All you need to follow are some easy steps. These homemade hair gels do not contain any harmful preservatives and chemicals, hence it becomes a safer go too.

We will be checking out two easy-homemade hair gel recipes now, the one is made of gelatin and another one is of flax seeds. Familiar and all time kitchen available ingredients, isn’t it? Go ahead and learn the preparing method. Make your own hair gel and let us know how it comes out.

2 minute Gelatine Hair Gel:

    • Take a sauce pan and fill it up with a cup of fresh water.
    • Add half a teaspoon of gelatin and simmer the stove, let the mixture get thick.
    • After it thickens as like the consistency you prefer, switch off the stove and allow the gel to cool.

Flax seed Nourishing Hair gel:

  • Now add two drops of essential oils like grape seed oil or Vitamin E oil to the gel, blend well and store it in an air tight container.
  • For this, you can use any old cosmetic container which is clean and dry. This hair gel can be refrigerated and used for up to 2 weeks.
  • Fill your sauce pan with a cup of water and add 1/4 cup of flax seeds to it.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil and wait till it thickens. This will turn into an egg while like consistency.
  • After you get the desired thickness, switch off the stove and allow this flax seed gel to cool.
  • Now mix 1/3 parts of aloe vera gel to 1 part of this flax seed gel and blend well. You can also use any essential oil if you like.
  • Mixing of aloe vera is optional, but it effectively nourishes your hair and promotes hair growth. This hair gel can also be stored in your refrigerator and used for about 2 weeks.

Tit bits to remember:

  • The fresher is better, so prepare only a smaller quantity and finish it within 2 weeks.
  • Grapeseed oils and some other essential oils act as a natural preservative in your homemade hair gel, so don’t say no to them.
  • It is highly recommended to use a pump container to store this hair gel because tub containers are not hygienic.
  • Aloe vera gel contains enzymes and other natural compounds which does loads of goodness for your hair.
