DIY Milk Soap: A Simple Guide to Homemade Natural Soap
Do you really think the soap you are using is doing good to you? Are you aware that most of the soaps we see in the market have chemicals in them? But we are left with no choice, as there is no soap free of chemicals, right?
Wrong. We have milk soap, which has a lot many benefits for your skin. In this post we talk about making own milk soap at home. Would you like to know how? Read on!
Ingredients Required For Making Milk Soap:
- Goat milk
- Moulds
- Safety goggles
- Rubber gloves
- Calculator
- Saucepan
- Glass thermometer
- Wire rack
- Plastic Spoon
- Stainless steel pan
Steps:
- Wear your safety goggles and rubber gloves before you start off. Make sure your hands are clean too, and wear a long-sleeved shirt.
- When you are making cold soaps at home, do know that verification of the SAP oils is necessary. Use a lye calculator for doing this. Never make the mistake of making soap without knowing the saponification values.
- Take a heavy saucepan and heat all hard fats. Make sure the heat is low. The fats should start melting by now. If you are using liquid oils, heat them to 90 degrees (you can check this temperature with the help of a handy glass thermometer).
- Now remove the saucepan or the double boiler from heat and let it cool down to around 90 degrees. Use a handy glass thermometer for this again.
- The oil/fats should always be within 10 degrees F. Also, lower the temperature.
- Now add some goat milk into a stainless steel bowl. You may freeze the goat milk with some ice ahead of time so that the soap doesn’t overheat.
- Slowly add lye to goat milk and keep stirring with the help of a plastic spoon. The lye will heat up the milk. You can now let the mixture cool down to 90 degrees.
- Now add the lye mixture to the oil and fats together.
- For great results, blend the mixture with the help of a stick blender until it has been emulsified.
- If you are using your hand, it will obviously take much longer to settle than a stick blender would.
- Now pour the mixture into moulds.
- Cover them with a towel and let it stay for 24 hours approx.
- Remove the hardened soap from the moulds next.
- Slice them into pieces.
- Place them on a wire rack.
- Wait for about 4 to 6 weeks before using.
