Have you ever tried sheep milk? And did you know it has a host of benefits? Keeping that aside, even the soap made out of sheep milk is beneficial in amazing ways! Now that’s cool, isn’t it?

And how would it be if you could prepare sheep milk soap right in your home? Well, that is what this post is all about! Go ahead with your read!

Sheep Milk Soap Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • Sheep Milk 18 oz
  • Rice bran oil 5 oz
  • Olive oil 20 oz
  • Avocado oil 5 oz
  • Castor oil 4 oz
  • Shea butter 5 oz
  • Sweet Almond oil 5 oz
  • Coconut oil 20 oz
  • Sheep Milk Lye 9 oz

Directions:

The recipe is divided into two distinct sections.

Making Sheep Milk Lye:

  1. First, we will create the lye solution. You can freeze some sheep milk in freezer bags (this is usually done to keep the lye stable)
  2. Take the frozen milk out of the freezer bag and chop it up into pieces.
  3. Add a little bit of sheep milk (around 1 oz) to get the lye dissolving.
  4. Now create an ice water bath for the lye.
  5. Add some ice cubes and water to a bowl.
  6. Make sure the bowl is deep enough and wide enough to set your lye container.
  7. Add around ¼ of the lye and begin mixing.
  8. Add more lye gradually and always remember to use a wooden spoon for the lye.
  9. Once the sheep milk pieces begin to melt a bit, add some more lye and continue mixing.
  10. Don’t stop mixing as it will create lye clumps that will be present in the soap as well.
  11. Keep adding more lye gradually until you run out of it.
  12. The mixture should turn yellow. Don’t worry though, as this is quite normal.
  13. Once you have done that, keep the lye solution aside.
  14. Keep the vessel partially submerged in cold water.

Preparing The Oils:

  1. Now that you have prepared the lye and kept the vessel in cold water, let it set for a while and move on to the next stage of the process; mixing the oils.
  2. Begin by melting the hard oils; which include coconut oil and shea butter.
  3. Now add the liquid oils (olive, avocado, castor and sweet almond oils) to the mixture. This process helps cool the melted oils down.
  4. Once the oils cool down and are ready, you can finally begin making the soap.
  5. If you want, you can add your own special fragrance (like orange blossom or lavender oil) to the melted oil mixture.
  6. Stir the lye solution.
  7. You will usually spot some globs in it; usually milk contains fat that leads to the air pockets and bubbles.
  8. You can also whisk the lye solution to make sure it has a smooth consistency.
  9. Remember to whisk it using a wooden whisk.
  10. Now add the lye solution to the oil and mix well.
  11. Once the mixture settles, begin pouring into a soap mold or a flat soap pan.
  12. The shape of your soap is totally your discretion, and you should customize your bar at this stage.
  13. Remember to use heat proof molds.
  14. Once the molds have been filled, let the mixture set overnight.
  15. You can even consider freezing it to speed up hardening of the mix.
  16. The next day, take the soap out of the mold.
  17. Using a soap shaper/cutter or a sharp knife, cut the soap into your desired shape.
  18. Let the soap cure for around a month.

Once the soap is cured, enjoy bathing with your homemade sheep milk soap.
