The text above is a follow-up to ...Thank-you so much for responding.  I will try some of the products you suggested.  Do you know of a place/professional where I can send the tray to have the silver taken off?   Linda

-----Question-----
I have a silver plated copper serving tray.  It is in really bad shape and I would like to remove the silver and just have the copper left.  Thank-you for any help you can give me.    Linda

Hello Linda and thank you for your inquiry. Silver plate has a habit of being difficult to remove when you want to remove it ! I know of no product other than the acid removers that professionals use and it is not for home use. You might try an abrasive type metal cleaner on a spot to see how difficult it is to use it - "never dull", bon-ami are a couple of names. Depending on the shape and how much the silver is worn already - it may not be too difficult. Trouble is, you don't way to damage the copper if that's what you want to use. Sorry I couldn't be of any further help and good luck.

or check your local telephone directory for metal refinishers. Sometimes a re-plating company for silverplate will also remove the silver plate. It really needs to be done by way of dipping into an acid based solution. Also check with your local museum for a possible referral. Best done by professionals. Hope this helps and good luck.
