QuestionI just bought a few feet of silver chain at a bead store and would like to patina it with liver of sulpher. I've tried, but it will not patina. Is there something i could be doing wrong? I heat the silver in hot water, and apply the l.o.s. Also how long does a patina last?

It may be that your chain is not silver or alternatively has a coating.
I would try soaking it in a warm pickle solution - 15% sulphuric Acid with water - which should activate the metal and then clean it well and try again.
You could also clean it in a mild caustic solution.
I would try making the LOS solution warm around 40C and then place the cleaned and pickle chain in.....
