QuestionMy sister makes me bead and gem necklaces using 20 strand twisted wire. Most times when they are shipped or travel with me, the wire breaks - on planes, UPS, FedEx, mail. We wrap them in bubble wrap laying them straight out so the beads don't touch and then pad with peanuts and plastic so they don't move. Sometimes they break, sometimes not. Traveling from Europe, 1 broke, 1 did not. I took 2 necklaces, wrapped in bubble wrap, longways, in my carry-on to Aruba. Placed the bag at my feet on the plane. both necklaces arrived broken. Stones are turquoise, jade, silver beads, other natural gems. Why do they break? How can I keep them from breaking? Thanks you!!
AnswerGreetings,
This sounds most peculiar ad I've been scratching my head for a few days over this one.
All that I could put it down to is that the necklace is being crimped too tight....as a rule of thumb, any necklace should be able to coiled into two circles, ie if you have a 40cm necklace, then it will make a 12.5cm circle, so you should be able to coil it twice into a 6cm circle.
The necklace needs to have enough movement so that you can do this easily which then accounts for all movements when being worn.
I cant think of any other reason for this to happen.
Cheers and good luck, P
