Identifying Victorian Sterling Silver Cuff Links - Dominion Jewelry Co.
Question
vintage cuff link set
Hello,
I have sterling stamped cuff links and a matching tie clip that i believe are from the early 1900s. They have two hallmarks [DJ] and [pic of a castle] When i looked up the hallmark, i found that its from a company called The Dominion Jewelry Manufacturing Co. which was a large manufacturer of Canadian souvenir spoons. They were in business in the early 1900's in Toronto, Canada . This is where my search ends, i cant find any other info or pictures of there jewelry or value. Any information you can provide me, would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Laurie"
Answer
Hello Laurie,
Unfortunately i can't tell you much more about the company than you have already found out. They stopped producing in about 1910 at which time they were bought out by Breadner manufacturing co. that continued to make spoons and more and more articles of silverplate not reproducing the early sterling wares of Dominion .Your set was created early in Dominion's business before souvenir items became their focus. The set you have is stamped and not hand worked repousse' as they were industrializing jewelery processes to sell on a mass scale at the turn of the century.Nonetheless, it is a nice collectible that has lasted as a set more than 100 years! The value is slightly above the value of the metal though being a desirable botanical motif and intact set.It is perhaps worth about $150.00 at the high end, slightly more in Canadian currency.Sorry but you had most of what I can tell you already.
Best regards,Ari
