QuestionI have a tennis braclet that has been repaired many times. I'm tired of waisting my money on repairs. I want to know how would I melt my 14kt. gold braclet with the diamond 69 diamons in it?
Thanks in advance

AnswerHello, Hope. Thanks for contacting me.
As for melting the gold to remove the diamonds, that is not the way to do it. It sounds reasonable at first but is not. Why? Some of the diamonds may be burned or given a frosty look. The next reason is gold melts at a high temperature(why diamonds get "burned") and you need a oxygen gas torch to do it. Then, the diamonds get stuck to and lost in a melted blob of gold!
There is only one reasonable way to remove the stones with out damage to the stones: Unset the stones. A jeweler would likely take a tool and cut off the prongs or what ever gold holds the diamonds in place and let the stone fall out. With the bracelet too much trouble to repair any more, removal will cut away some gold but be much quicker than if you were trying to save the bracelet. A jewler is the way to get this done.
Save the gold. You might be able to have something made from it later down the road.
I hope this helps answer your question. Let me know and get back to me if you need to. Use the "follow-up" option to get back.
Hope, wishing you well and a fine rest of the week.
