Identifying Antique Sterling Silver Necklace: Value & History

Question
My question is about a necklace I found at a tag sale.  It looks old but not sure it about 2 1/2 centimeters long and 2 centimeters wide it hollow with a screw top on one side it has a horse with wings and on the other it has a harp and the shape of the necklace is like a heart the only thing I can find stamped into it is the word sterling any info would be great.  Thank you

Answer
G'day Angela and many thanks for your query

Unfortunatly I can't see, feel, measure or touch this item so can't help you in that regard.

However your measurements seem a little off as 2 1/2 centimeters is - 1 inch? SMALL NECK PERHAPS ;-)

Sterling however is the standard mark for Sterling Silver or .925 grade silver but even this is not guaranteed as items are stamped everyday with wrong marks designed to fool people. Have it checked by your local friendly jeweler.

Remember though that even if it is silver - it is still the cheapest of the precious metals. Costume Jewelry and Fashion Jewelry are often made from silver because it is cheap.

Why not just wear it and enjoy it?

You might like to check places like eBay or the Antique Jewelry Fair at: http://www.antique-jewelry-fair.com/ and see if they have anything similar.

Hope this helps....
