Platinum Engagement Ring Setting: Understanding Mixed Metals

Question
Hello,
I have a question regarding my engagement ring setting.  The ring is platinum, with 3 diamonds.  The prongs are all platinum.  However, the setting around the main diamond appears to be a more goldish colored metal, NOT platinum like the rest of the ring.  Do you know why this is?  Shouldn't the entire ring be platinum when it was sold to my fiance as "platinum"?  Do you think the jewelry used white gold around the main diamond to make the stone look whiter?

Answer
Check with your jeweler.
He or she may have used some gold to tip the prongs If a prong was missing on the ring.
