White Gold Plated Rings: Why Do They Tarnish & How to Prevent It?

Question
Hello,
thank you for your time!
I have bought some rings and I was told that they are 18K white gold plated designed with swarovski crustal. I worn one of these to test it, but its plate began to fade during the second week I was wearing it, revealing the underneath (a bronze metal)..
Is there a solution for the rings to last more or not to fade??

Answer
Hi Stephanie. White gold is usually coated with Rhodium in order to preserve its shine, but if it fades that quickly it most probably isn't 18k. Plating wears off quickly, especially when it comes in contact with sweat. Once it comes off you'll have to contact the jeweler you bought it from or get it replated at a local jeweler.
