QuestionRecently my mother passed away and I inherited her jewelry. Those diamonds along with many diamonds I have that I no longer wear, I want to make a graduated tennis necklace.
My funds are very limited. I need to know where to go to purchase a blank necklace. I hope this is a question you can answer.
Thanks for any help you can give,
Pat
AnswerPat, God bless you and the family following the death of your mother. I do want peace for all.
As for the necklace, honestly the best place to get a blank is from a jewelry store. That may not be what you hoped to hear but it is the way it is. Companies making this sort of jewelry will sometimes have blanks (jewelry without the gems set) available to a store with whom they do business. Otherwise, to find a blank necklace of this sort will be very, very difficult and I cannot begin to say where to look. You see, I imagine the other work involved and see a jewelry store with a good reputation and a good bench jeweler as the best approach.
You need to remove all the diamonds from the settings to be able to measure the diameters. This is needed for any sort of jewelry to be purchased. The settings in the links will need to be quite close to the sizes of the stones you have. Then, the stones will need to be set into the necklace links. There is a chance with a graduated form, links may have to be custom assembled to accommodate the various sizes of gems you have. The project becomes more complicated as we go along.
I am not wanting to discourage you in this plan but see it as quite difficult to make happen well. You may want to consider other uses of the diamonds in ways not so demanding as a graduated form.
Pat, go to a reputable jewelry store and ask. Or, first call and see if they can even order the parts needed. I do wish you well on this one but see a budget being quite taxed with the final cost of this project.
