Repurposing Gold-Plated Flatware: Creative Reuse Options

Question

Larger serving pieces
I have read several of your fine answers and the one about melting down gold jewelry to reclaim the gold is, I think, similar to mine.  Have 135-piece gold plated flatware from Saudi Arabia.  If I can't sell it as such or reclaim the gold, is there any craft reuse option; that is do people make things out this kind of flatware like rings, etc.  Thanks for your expertise!

Answer
I'm really not an expert in this field however... I can't imagine that there would be enough gold in a melting process since plating is only millionths of an inch-thick ... there are people that make jewelry out of sterling ware but I cannot imagine they pay very much since it is so prevalent. One important thing you should do is see what metal is under the gold plating...
I think there's slight possibility it could be silver ...
also there is probably the best option of selling it piece by piece two other people who have the same collection but are missing certain
pieces... good luck
