German‑Made Jeweled Lipstick Holder Cigarette Lighter – Antique Authentic Heirloom

Question

German Cigarette Light
This cigarette lighter belonged to my deceased great aunt. I still have the original box it came in. The lighter measures 2 3/4" high, it has Made In Germany engraved on it. The word Fewel appears on the bottom cap.  I know it was made prior to WWII based on the inscription and it is confirmed that it was a gift from my late great uncle. I can't find any information on the company that issued it. Is is it costume or are the jewels genuine? Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hello Sharon and thank you for your inquiry. This is a very nice vintage lighter. Unfortunately I have not been able to find out anything on Fewel. It is difficult to locate European jewelry and accessory companies especially early ones prior to WWII. A lot of them were not registered or the records were destroyed. If you feel that it may be precious metal or gems you should take it to an estate appraiser or gemologist for evaluation. There are also online appraisers that will work from a good photograph. One of them is "What's It Worth To You". You can find them using your browser search.

These items were made in bulk during both wars especially WWII and popular souvenir items. An appraisal would allow you to have the information if you ever want to sell the item or pass it down as an heirloom !

Hope this helps and enjoy !
