Understanding Alexandrite Rings: Hallmarks, Authenticity, and Embedded Diamonds

I just purchased an Alexandrite 14K white gold ring with an EI and a tiny
diamond next to the initials embedded on the inside band.  What does the
Hallmark and diamond inside the band stand for?  What are the chances that the
stone is a real alexandrite?  Thank you.
