Question

QUESTION: I don't know jewelry well and hope this is within your profile guide.
This brooch is marked 18K and star symbol followed by "1932 AL". It is 2.5" x 2" with an unusual closure. It is beautiful and quite heavy but is it of value beyond it's gold? Do you think the diamonds are real?
I will attempt to attach two photos.
Aloha, Beth

ANSWER: Beth,
I only received the back of the picture and cant see the diamonds....I dont know if the pic will be of help for me to see the stones....the "closure" is not that unusual as its a standard brooch pin with a slit on the one side for the pin to fit and then a push lock, not sure if the pin section is gold, looks like stainless or other metal...the item appears to be of thinner gold but cant tell just from back pic....
let me know

QUESTION: Thank you Mr. Keller,
Attached is the front image. The diamonds are small but faceted. The only metal on the pin is gold except the tiny pin attaching the body to the wings. It may not be extremely accurate but the only scale I have is for postage. The brooch weighs just under one ounce. Thank you so much for your time.
Beth

Answer
from the pic it appears to be gold and the diamonds are just .01cts each or smaller which are insignificant....its a pretty piece but I cant give you accurate info without actually holding the item and weighing it on a gram scale...the postal scale is not accurate for this type of item I would suggest to take it to a local jeweler and have them look at it in your area...
all the best
