Sterling Silver Bar Pin with Diamonds: Age & Value Assessment
QuestionI recently purchased an item which puzzles me, and I am hoping you can help!It is a delicate filigree bar pin, stamped sterling on the clasp and set with 3 small diamonds. Yes, the stones have been tested and they are indeed genuine diamonds. The pin had alot of tarnish, so I am quite sure it is silver. I am wondering if this is a technique they once used - if it is indeed an older piece or if it is a newer piece made in the art deco style. I have looked in my reference books, but am unable to find anything between gold set w/diamonds & sterling set w/paste or rhinestones. Any information will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
AnswerHello Lavonne and thank you for your inquiry. Your bar pin sounds beautiful. Filigree in sterling and gold was popular especial during the Edwardian period 1901-1910. Diamonds were set in both gold and silver as well as rodium plated filigree. Discovering the actual date of the piece would be difficult without a manufacturer or designer name but a jewelry estate appraiser should be able to give you more information with a hands-on examination. Hope this helps and enjoy your pin ! Below is a link to information on the Edwardian period. Just copy and paste it into your browser address field and hit enter.
