Identifying Antique Medallion: Massachusetts Crest & Religious Imagery

Question
I purchased a medallion that has MA with a crown above it on one side and on the reverse has the standard saint and Christ with Latin writing. The bail has a small stamp that I can't match with any makers. I have a hunch that this came from France or Italy but no markings I have found match.Do you have any expertise in this area and if not do you know anyone that does? Thanks Phil

Answer
Hello Phillip and thank you for your inquiry. I have listed a site below that has extensive hallmark information that you might be able to compare the markings on your medallion. Just copy and paste the below url into your browser address field and hit enter:

Most of the older religious medallions did come from Italy and France. Below is a site that lists many Patron Saint medals with good pictures that might be of some help.

I used to have a book on medals and medallions but haven't been able to locate it. If I do and it has any other information that might be helpful to you, I'll contact you back.

Hope this helps and good luck !
