Antique Wedding Rings in the 1890s: Details & Styles
QuestionAs you have experience with antique jewelry, maybe you can help me with this. For a novel I'm writing, I need to know something about antique wedding rings. A present-day character inherits his great-grandparents' rings; they were married in 1891 in the New Mexico territory. My first draft has the woman's ring as a narrow platinum band with engraved geometric designs, and the man's as a plain platinum band. I've done a little research, and it seems like those would be more typical of the 1900-1930 period. However, the man is rich, so it wouldn't be out of character for him to order the latest-and-greatest fashion in wedding rings from out of state. Your opinion would be very helpful. Thank you!
AnswerHello Paula and thank you for your inquiry. I'm not an expert on fine jewelry but have listed a site below that gives information and visuals on replica and antique wedding and engagement rings. Just click on or copy and paste the url below into your browser address field and hit enter:

Also, you might check out some collector's victorian jewelry books for pictures and information in the ring category. One of my favorites is "Collecting Victorian Jewelry" by C. Jeanenne Bell.
Hope this helps !
