Identifying Art Nouveau Jewelry Makers: Decoding the 'AM' Signature
Question
Cameo-Sig
I bought a group of Art Nouveau pieces in an auction. Two of them have the same signature on the back but I cannot find who the maker is. Both say"Sterling" and Hand Made". The mark is a small capital A on the left, a large capital M in the middle and I think a small capital S on the right. Then an arrow pointing up goes right through the M. One of the pieces is a Intaglio Cameo brooch and the other is a necklace.
AnswerHello Nancy and thank you for your inquiry. I believe your piece is by Art Metal Studios in Chicago, Illinois c. 1884-1954. Their works were sold to Marshall Field and Company and Lord & Taylor to name a few department stores. They also made some beautiful accessories as well as jewelry. Company was founded by Edmun Boker and Ernest Gould from Hungary. Hope this helps !
Enjoy your jewelry !
