QuestionMy wife's ring was run over and the head got bent and the marquise diamond is at an angle. I took it to three places and got three answers. The ring is white gold with a .4 caret diamond.
Solution 1: Torch work. Remove the diamond, repair the setting and polish and replace the stone (also the least expensive option by far)
Solution 2: Replace the setting. Use laser to repair. I can't remember if they said platinum of phalloidum or something like that would be used for the setting instead of white gold. Repair is on site and warranty is for a year. This was the most expensive option.
Solution 3: Replace setting due to the amount of damage. The setting would be replaced with white gold (like the ring) and covered to help protect the white quality. The tool used in repair would be a torch. This was mid priced
Do you think it should be replaced, or would a repair truly be a viable option? Would changing metals cause a problem or be overly obvious? Would a torch or laser be the better tool in this circumstance.
Thank you for your help and time

Answerhello; with out a photo of the the damage it is hard to assess whether to just straighten or to replace. My suggestion is to replace with a new head. It will give you more mental security and longer life out of the setting.
Do not go with platinum or such They are weaker metals and you will be spending a lot of time straightening prongs and tightening stones. Go with 14k white gold.
