QuestionHi, I have recently bought a teapot shaped item which seems to be made of silver and jade, silver rim with dragon spout and ornate handle the whole of the rim is embossed with birds and it has a removeable cap with a rat? on top, all the inner is what appears to be jade in the centre of this is a jade? ball. the item is approx 4.5ins wide,5.5ins high inc cap and approx 1ns deep, I have photo's but not verry good.
AnswerHello Alan and thank you for your inquiry. Without a picture it is difficult to tell much about your teapot excepte that the design is oriental - probably Chinese. They used mostly lower grade silver for items and your teapot size indicates more ornamental and functional. The stone probably is jade. You might check your local library for books on Chinese or other oriental art and decorative items for comparison to your teapot. Some designs can be attributed to particular eras or makers. You might also check for any identifying markings on the bottom. Hope this helps and enjoy your teapot !
