Understanding Nipple Discharge: Causes, Symptoms & When to See a Doctor

Question
Hi Catherine,

Thanks for the information.  The fluid was whitish and, yes, drops of it did come from both breasts, however, much more came from the left breast than from the right.  Do you think this could possible be breast milk?

Hello,

I have a question about female nipple discharge.  My girlfriend recently had fluid discharge from her left breast.  The fluid was a greyish white in color.  It occured following sexual fore play with her breasts.  I had squeezed her nipple and within seconds, this fluid discharged and dripped from her nipple.  She is not pregnant, nor has she ever been.  What do you think this may or may not be?  Thanks.

derrick;

its wise to pay attention to changes in your nipples. although most often the cause is noncancerous[benign],some changes are cancer related.

yellow, green, brown or gray fluid that leaks from nipples is likely due to either fibrocystic changes of breasts or dilated ducts[mammary duct ectasia]. whitish fluid from multiple ducts is probably breast milk, especially if it comes from both nipples.

in case of nipple discharge,he or she[doctor] may gather a
sample of the discharge for laboratory analysis.
nipple discharge is rarely serious. however, its very important to be evaluation by your doctor to determine the cause.

i hope this is all helpful.

Answer
derrick.

in most cases, its as normal to a slight discharge ooze from your nipples as it is to have a trace of oil seep from your skin.

like skin follicles, the ducts leading to the nipple naturally contain some fluid,as well.

besides hormones changes,a number of things can cause discharge from both nipples, including antidepressants and blood pressure medications.

your discharge is normal,so relax. ok.
if you experience discharge that seems in any way abnormal, bring it to the attention of your doctor. like yellow, brown, green or puslike, you could have an infection within the breasts.but whitish is ok.

try wearing a sports bra, this with help somewhat.
