QuestionI am wondering if you can answer why so many women (those who have borne children or not) carry weight (fat) in the abdominal area. Also, what can be done about this?
Thanks.
AnswerHello Adrienne
Has to do with starvation and childbirth. Our ancestors did not get 3 meals a day, so women's bodies made sure there was always enough food in the form of fat surrounding the abs. Also acted like a cushion for the child. Also, the ab muscles have no support other than the back, so gravity is constantly pulling the abs down.
One positive thing you can do is tighten up your abs.
Lie on your kitchen floor, knees up, feet on the floor, up under the bottom of the kitchen cabinet. Hands across your upper chest.
Raise your upper back 1/4 up off the floor. Hold for 20 seconds. FEEL your abs shake.
Do not go up higher than 1/4 up. If you do, your sides and back muscles are holding you up. Do not put your hands behind your head. If you do, you are pulling yourself up.
Do this exercise every day. It WILL tighten up your stomach, and burn some calories too.
Hope this helps. If you have any more questions or need more exercises advice, please write again.
Have a great day.
