Understanding Healthy Weight & Body Composition: A Fitness Enthusiast's Perspective

Question
Hi there Bonnie,

I am a 33 year old active female, who is probably a little too obsessed with what I see on the scale at times. I run 3- 5 times a week, weight train 3 times a week and bike an average of 15 - 20 miles (up many large hills!) 5 days a week (I commute to work via bike). I have strong leg muscles, and defined (although not rock hard, I had a baby 13 years ago and can still see a little stubborn piece of flesh there) abs and arms - my weight seems to flux between 122 and 126 pounds. Is this a healthy weight, should I aim for a lower one? I am more concerned about excess fat that can be harmful to my body.

I do eat well, although sometimes indulge in too many carbs/cheese. I have also noticed that I see very little change in my muscles, have I hit a wall?

Answer
Hi Sherry,
Thank you for your question.
Almost all of my famale clients are more worried about what the scale says that anything else.
Measure progress by different things:bodyfat, how your clothes fit,how much energy you have, etc.
Your weight is fine-do not try to go lower.
Make sure that you eat properly and stay well hydrated.
Thank You,
Any more questions-feel free to ask.
