QuestionHello,
My name is Mara Borrero I am 24 married and mother of one and I live in Chesapeake, VA..
I have been seeking a program about Polysystic Ovarian research but not exactly sure where to look. I was diagnose with this condition early this year 2008. Ever since I had my daughter seven years ago I have been able to become pregnant which I'm trying, and my periods have been very irregular. I was put on Metformin pills 500mg twice a day, which I have been taking for the pass almost 3 or 4 months. My period came two months in a row but the third never came and I'm trying to see if the next one comes in the beginning of August. I would like to volunteer to a program that studies this type o conditions, but do not really know how they work.
Also would like to know of any web sites that might help in search in getting pregnant.
If you could please give me some information I would be very grateful.
Thank you,
Mara Borrero
AnswerMara,
I am unfamiliar with any study programs that are going on in your area. However, The Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Association keeps a list of research, treatment, and information. Their website is www.pcosupport.org
You may need your dose of metformin adjusted, or you may be a good candidate to try a fertility medication such as clomid. Your Dr is your best resource for discussing different treatment options since your goal is to become pregnant again. With the right treatment, alot of women with PCOS are able to conceive. Sometimes it just means finding a Dr who is knowledgable and can tailor a treatment program that fits your needs. I hope this helps.
