Uterine Prolapse & Pregnancy: Understanding Treatment & Outlook

Question
My daughter is 38 and has 2 children.  She miscarried about 6 months ago.  She is now 7 1/2 weeks pregnant and diagnosed with uterine prolapse. She is experiencing that "drop feeling".What can she expect in the way of treat-
ment for this condition?  Does she need to go on bed rest - for how long?
Any advice you can give will be appreciated.

Answer
Usually, a prolapsed uterus will not interfere with the pregnancy and she does not need to be on bedrest unless she has some dilatation of her cervix. However, after the baby is born, she will be reassessed as to the degree of prolapse and a discussion will be had about the alternatives (surgical sling, pessary, kegels exeercises, hysterectomy, etc).
