Understanding Medication for Preterm Labor: A Patient's Experience

Question
I went to the doctor to find out if I was okay because I was haveing contractions that wasnt slowing down and my bag of water was leaking. I am 34 weeks pregant with my second child and they gave me MORPHINE to help stop contractions. I had asked a few people about if they had heard about that before and they said No. Is that a normal medicine to give pregant women in labor It did not stop my contractions and they sent me home with my water still leaking and me haveing preterm labor.

Answer
HI Kori,
this is not a normal procedure, other drugs are used especially if it is too early in the pregnancy, but if you are term and water is leaking, you are to be put in the hospital because of the risk of infection. Go back to the ER or to another one and get reevaluated and in the hospital. Lt me know what you find out.
