Questionmy daughter is having her first child.her duedate was Feb 20,2004 but she has gone 10 days over that duedate and the ultrasound duedate is suppose to be March 9,2004.my question for you is,is my daughter safe beening this far over her drs duedate...?thank you...a concerned mother
AnswerIt depends on when the sonogram was taken as to which due date is more accurate. If the due date of February 29 was based on her last period (which would have been May 13) and the sonogram was just recently taken, I would take more stock with the February 29 due date. HOwever, if the sonogram were done at 20 weeks or earlier, and gave a due date of March 9, then that is the most accurate. In any case, we do not consider a woman to be post dates until she reaches 42 weeks (14 days past her due date). At 41 weeks, she would have a non stress test done and a biophysical profile, and at 42 weeks,if she does not go into labor, she will be induced. It is normal for a woman to go into labor two weeks before her due date as well as two weeks after her due date. Don't worry.
