Uterine Enlargement & Post-Norplant Weight Gain: Exploring the Connection

Question
I have had the Norplant from 1992-1997 and I had never, ever had a weight problem until I had gotten the birth control. Recently I have found out that I have an enlarged uterus, and I am planning on having a hysterectomy for it. But I have also seen an Endocrinologist because since I have had the Norplant removed I have been unable to take off the weight that I had gained because of it. As a matter of fact I have put on even more, and no matter what I do or try, I am unable to take off the weight. I had my cortisol levels tested, and they came back just fine. My body is not putting out any more Cortisol levels than it is suppose too. What I would like to know is: Is it possible that because I have an enlarged uterus problem, that, that is why I am having trouble loosing weight? I am 33 years old, and I have had 4 full term pregnacies. 02/28/04 was the first day of my last period.
Thank you for any help that you might be able to give me.

Answer
An enlarged uterus (due to fibroids) will not cause you to gain wait (other than the increased girth due to the fibroid itself). However, birth control pills are notoriously known for making it difficult to lose weight. Perhaps you can use some other form of birth control. Of course, once you have the hysterectomy, you will not need birth control pills and can lose weight easier. Good Luck to you.
