QuestionHello there,
I am 27 weeks pregnant and in the last two months I have lost 9kg. I am of course incredibly concerned about this - so I saw my doctor, who dismissed it as some "psychological disorder" because he couldnt find a physical cause.
I am now desperately trying to gain weight... but still the fact that I lost any weight at all is disturbing me. I always eat plenty, and what I eat is usually healthy (sometimes, I have something like take-out pizza or chinese). I havent had a change in my appetite.
The doctor did blood tests, and urine tests to see if I had anaemia, thyroid disfunction, or deficiencies in vitamins/minerals etc. but everything was normal.
Please, could you give me some advice on this...
thank you.
P.S.
I am fifteen... and am taking medication for bipolar disorder.... I cant think of anything else that is relevant.
AnswerHi Sophia,
If all the tests came back clear then this is most likely nothing to worry about.
If you have suffered with sickness during pregnancy then it can cause you to lose weight. Have you been tested for gestational diabetes, this can cause you to lose weight. Other factors that can cause weight loss can be caused by the baby and can contribute to you having an abundance or lack of amniotic fluid which also can cause a change in weight.
