Miscarriage & Delayed Period: Unexpected Pregnancy After Provera

Question
My husband and I got pregant Nov of 2003 that ended in a miscarriage in Dec.  For three months I did not have a period.  I saw my Dr. and he prescribed Provera to make me start my period so we could try again.  He told me to take it for 10 days and then wait 7.  I did.. and nothing happened.  Well, on day 7 somethind inside told me to take a pregnancy test.  I did and it was positive.  I called my dr. to make an appointment but the nurses won't let me make an appointment any earlier than May because I am so early.  My dr. doensn't know yet.  I'm just nervous since my first pergnancy ended in miscarriage.  Is the provera going to affect my pregnancy in a bad way?
Thank you in advance for you help.
Courtney

Answer
Hello Courtney. No, the provera is just a form of the same hormones your body makes in pregnancy anyway. All you or anyone else can do is to make sure you are taking a daily folic acid supplement, NO drinking alcohol, NO smoking and eat VERY healthy food. EAT NO sugar, soda-not even diet, junk food, fast food, desserts etc- eat LOTS of vegetables, three pieces of fruit a day- no more and LOTS of protein- eggs, fish, meat, chicken etc. A pregnancy that threatens to abort in the first 12 weeks should not be interfered with- there may be a very good reason that it should not continue- don't mess with mother nature. All the best- Cheri.
