Before you even become pregnant, take a prenatal vitamin. Your baby begins developing its neural cord, which eventually turns into the brain and spinal cord, during the first trimester of pregnancy. Ensuring that you get the proper amount of folic acid, calcium and iron is essential, even from the very beginning of your conception journey.

Once you find out that you are pregnant, make sure that you find a doctor or midwife that you are comfortable with. Many times, women choose the first doctor that they see and end up having an unpleasant experience with them. Ask friends and family if they know of a good, reliable midwife.

Get prenatal vitamins from your doctor or over the counter and make sure you take them on a regular basis. A good prenatal vitamin will take care of the needs of both you and your new baby.
