QuestionI'm 27 yrs old & this is my first pregnancy. I had my last periods on 6th November'2003. My B.P. is normal(110-70) & I weigh 65kgs (Initially 57&1/2kgs) as on 21/05/2004.
I've been experiencing acute pain, as if my lower rib-bone pierces thru my skin on the left side only. There are no signs on the surface of the skin, but it hurts even to touch. As per my gynae's advice I tried to lie down preferably on the left side, but nowadays it results in pain & uneasiness. My gynae had recommended a gel(Nise Gel) & a tablet(Paracetamol) for the same. But on reading the prescription & further discussing it, I have only applied the gel so far, that too when the pain becomes unbearable, since it contains nimuslide, which is not healthy for the baby. I have avoided taking any 'extra' medicines just to avert any affect on the baby. But is so much pain a normal thing? All the time (both day & night)?
Also I wish to know if there is any special diet or any other thing that should be specially taken care of? I've been told that I should not be sitting much-either lie down or keep standing/walking etc. Kindly suggest.
Thanks & Regards
Alka
AnswerI am not familiar with Nise Gel or Paracetamol. If you are having such pain in the left lower quadrant of your abdomen, you should have it evaluated by your doctor. Perhaps a sonogram should be done to see if you may have an ovarian cyst that has twisted or ruptured that is causing such excruciating pain. It is definitely NOT normal to have such unbearable pain at 29 weeks gestation. If you do have a ruptured cyst or a twisted cyst, you may need surgery before you deliver this baby. I think a sonogram is in order. I would only suggest acetominofen or acetominofen with codeine to control the pain. If necessary, Demeral or Percocet can be used during pregnancy. There is no special diet that I can think of that will alleviate your pain. Eat a high protein, low carbohydrate diet with leafy vegetables, three glasses of milk per day, and plenty of fluids.
