Questionthank you so much. I have one more question though if you have the time. I just read somewhere that if you have a positive pregnancy test followed by a negative one you could have an ectopic pregnancy. I am having a lot of abdominal pain and dont know what to tell my doctor if I go in. I was just wondering if someone did have an ectopic pregnancy if a home pregnancy test would eventually become positive?

HI
I was hoping you'd be able to help me with a pregnancy question. I took a home test about 2 weeks ago and it came back positive and a few minutes later the line faded away. I took another one 2 days later and it came back negative but earlier this week I started to get very nauseaus and tired with pretty bad cramps. yesterday I started to bleed a lot and I thought it was just my period but it stopped later that night. Is there any way to tell if it was a miscarriage and is their a possibility that if I was pregnant I could still be pregnant? Is it possible to get a positive test that fades away without actaully being pregnant? Thank you!

When was the first day of your last period? if you have a 28 day cycle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovualtion occurs on cycle day #14. YOu can only become pregnant if you have sex on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16. If you do, indeed, conceive on one of those days, a pregnancy test will not show a positive result until 14-21 days later. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your period. If it is negative at that time, you are not pregnant. The test has to show dark, bold lines after three minutes. If the test is negative at the right time, you are not pregnant. If the test is positive, and have heavy bleeding, it may be a miscarriage. The way to check is to do two blood tests for pregnancy, 48 hours apart. If the value of the test doubles in 48 hours, you are pregnant. If it halves in 48 hours, you have had a miscarriage.
AnswerIf you are pregnant (either in your tube or in your uterus) a pregnancy test will show a positive result. If you have a pregnancy test that is posiitive and then becomes negative, you probably have miscarried. If you have an ectopic pregnancy, the pregnancy test will remain positive. HOwever, if you take a blood test for pregnancy (Beta HCG) twice, 48 hours apart, if the value in 48 hours doubles, it means that you have a viable pregnancy. If it halves in 48 hours, it means that you have had a miscarriage. If it ploateaus or does not rise much, it can indicate an ectopic pregnancy (in the tube). If you are having pain in your abdomen, I would check with your doctor and, perhaps, get a sonogram to see what is going on.
