Hello Mercy- this is totally dependant on the rules of the individual hospital. The best for the Mom is her life partner, a female support person(often called a Doula), the nurse and the dr. Of course in a home birth, you can have the whole neighborhood if you want. A home birth gives the mother complete control over the situation. Sometimes she only wants her partner near her and even the midwives stand back to observe and be available only if they are needed. Hope that answers your question. Cheri.
