Essential Oils & Evening Primrose Oil During Pregnancy: Safety & Usage

Question
Hi Cheri,

Thanks for your reply. By "EPO" in my 2nd question in my first email, I meant evening primrose oil tablets. I wonder if I can continue with them. Thanks.

Kind regards,
Wendy

Hello.

I am in the early weeks of my pregnancy and wonder if I can still continue
1) using my rose essential oil (for my daily skincare routine) as I have heard different advice against such oils and aromatherapy during pregnancy, and

2) taking EPO for the tenderness of my breasts, which I have been taking for my periods.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Best wishes,
Wendy

Hello Wendy- you need to expain what you mean by EPO, but I suspect that you should NOT be taking it during pregnancy. There are several essential oils that are not safe during pregnancy- I suggest that you go to a health food store that stocks books for sale and search out the information. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Cheri.

Answer
Hello Wendy- evening primrose oil is usually used to soften the cervix near the END of the pregnancy and I would NOT suggest that you take it now. We want your cervix to be strong and tight throughout the pregnancy to protect the baby- don't take it again until about 38 weeks of pregnancy. Hope that helps- have you looked for a local midwife in your area- you might really enjoy seeing a midwife rather than a dr. And you might enjoy a site called BirthLove- all the best- Cheri.
