QuestionHi
Going by my LMP I am 8wks + 6 days pregnant and my due date is the 8th of April 2005. I had an early scan at 6wks and measured 6wks and 1 day and going off this my new due date would be on 7th of April.
I needed to have a follow up scan at 8 wks (going off LMP) due to an irregular gestational sac and a heart rate of 96bpm. At this scan the heart rate was 169 bpm and the sac seemed fine, i was quite relieved but the ultrasound tech told me i was actually only 7 weeks +1 day pregnant and my due date would be 14th of April.
I am very sure of my last missed period and would like to know what date to use and does mean that the baby is not developing properly because a weeks difference seems like quite a big difference.
thank you
AnswerA sonogram is NOT accurate at less than 12 weeks gestational age (counting from the first day of your last period). If you say that, based on your LMP, your due date is April 8, then your last period started on July 1, 2004. Therefore, you are now exactly 9 weeks pregnant. You probably conceived on July 14. Your next sonogram should be between 16-20 weeks and will be accurate at that time (with an error of only + or - 14 days. Your due date does not change based on any sonogram measurements. It is still April 8, 2005. Remember that a pregnancy is 40 weeks from the first day of your period (38 weeks from conception). When you are given a due date, you may deliver two weeks before or two weeks after your due date and that is fine.
