32.5 Weeks Pregnant: Cervical Dilation, Baby Position & Doctor's Orders
QuestionThe first day of my last period was November 20, 2005. I am 32 1/2 weeks pregnanct. I went to see my doctor today and he told me that i really need to take it easy. Basiclly stay off my feet and parcial bed rest, no excersing or walking until I am at least 35 weeks.. While doing his examineation, I have dialated 2 centimeters and the doctor said that my cervix is thinning and that he felt the baby's head in postion when he checked me. Is it possible that i could go into labor at anytime in the next couple of weeks because he said that I might have the baby before the month is out. If this is possible with my cervix thinning how long do you think i have, and will they stop my labor or let me have the baby.
AnswerIf you go into labor prior to 35 weeks, they will probably stop the labor. Labor is defined as contractions every 3 minutes at the level of your belly button and each contraction lasts (remains hard) for at least one minute. If you start having contractions such as those, call your doctor. A cervix can normally be dilated up to 2cm for the month prior to delivery. If you break your water or have contractions as i mentioned, call your doctor. It is impossible to tell how long it will take to go into labor.
