High Protein in Urine & Pregnancy Concerns: Understanding Proteinuria

Question
Recently I was informed my BP was elevated 140/90 and a 24 hour urine revealed I had a protein count of 298. The protein count suprises me since I have never had a problem with it before, all of my routine office visit checks came back negative, and it's left me wondering if a mistake could have been made. I'm very worried about one of my midwives insisting on inducing me as 10 years ago when I received pitocin my BP shot up and made both me and my baby very sick, it was suggested then that I never receive pitocin again. I began using evening primrose on 9/8 to help ripen my cervix, but I was wondering what else can I do to get things moving along. I'm due in only 6 more days (9/16) and other than feeling tired, and now stressed, I don't feel ill. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Jody

Answer
Hello Jody- sorry to have taken so long- by now, the whole issue may be over. However, in case you are still waiting for this baby, have lots of sex to help ripen the cervix, the oil is good, do lots of nipple stimulation- rubbing both nipples for a full minute, every five minutes for two hours- best done while watching TV in the evening. Make sure you are eating LOTS of protein- meat, fish, eggs, chicken, almonds- most pre-toxic symptoms like your are due to not enough protein in the diet. You must remember that you have the right to REFUSE ANY procedure or treatment- you must be prepared that the midwife may then insist that you see a dr. instead but perhaps that is needed at that point. I agree that using pitocin on you would not be a good idea. Hope that helps- Cheri.
