Early Labor Induction with Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction: What to Expect

Question
I am 37.5 weeks pregnant, and am in a wheelchair due to symphisis pubis disorder and twisted pelvis.  (this is my second baby). My doctor said she would induce me early but not before i am at least 2 cms dialated on my own.  My first baby was late, and at my 37 wk appt i was not dialated at all.  What, if anything, can i do to get things moving along?  I am in a great deal of pain.  Thank you.

Answer
Dear Jennifer

I am not sure of the reason why and when your doctor will induce you. If she is going to interfere at 2 cm dilataion, this is called augmentation and not induction. Augmentation is quite normal and occurs after the spontaneous onset of normal labor. On the other hand, induction is done for medical or sometimes social indication and is done before onset of labor.i.e when the cervis is closed. I assume that your doctor meant augmentation of labor and there is nothing to worry abour regarding augmentation. However, a clear discussion should be made with her to clarify what she really meant as induction have clear indications.
