QuestionBrenda,
My husband and I have been through a rough nine months. I lost a pregnancy the end of Sept 08 due to a Blighted Ovum, requiring a DandC. Then I suffered a ruptured ectopic with loss of left tube in December, also requiring a DandC. We recently found out we were pregnant and lost the pregnancy at 5 weeks last Friday. I lost the last one on my own, but my Dr performed a suction procedure in the office to ensure all the tissue was removed. I have one healthy 2.5 year old- who was the result of our very first try at pregnancy. My pregnancy with her was unremarkable.
My question is this: how long must one wait to attempt to conceive again after such a rough year? I would really like to try again after a couple of healthy cycles, but wonder how safe it is. Should we wait longer?
We were told if we suffer one more MC we will be referred to an RE- but at this time we are just really unlucky.
Any help you can offer is so greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Molly
AnswerDear Molly,
I'm sorry to hear of your difficult year. Typically, after 2-3 consecutive pregnancy losses a referral is made to a specialist. This would not be unusual.
As far as the length of time in waiting to conceive a pregnancy again, the general recommendation would be to wait through 3 normal menstrual cycles to allow your body to heal from the last loss and let your hormone levels get back into a normal, regulated state. If it makes you feel more comfortable to give it a few more months/cycles beyond that, then that would be up to you. It is more of an instinct thing beyond that. You must do what you are most comfortable with.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
Brenda
