Pregnancy Concerns: Cold, Lightheadedness & When to See a Doctor

Question
Hi.  I just found out last week I was pregnant, but haven't been able to see my doctor yet due to the holiday.  I've had a cold for about four days, and for the last two I've been feeling light headed at unusual times.  Do I need to see a doctor immeadiately, or should I just schedule my appointment regularly as planned?  Thank you for your time.

Answer
Take Tylenol for your cold. Take Sudafed for stuffy nose and Robitussin for coughs. Drink plenty of water, and make an appointment for your first obstetrical visit 8 weeks from the first day of your last period.  You may be light headed due to some anemia. Your doctor will give you vitamins and will check your hemoglobin to see if you need iron supplentation. Good luck on your pregnancy.
