Prolapsed Uterus and Pregnancy: Risks & C-Section Concerns

Question
After the birth of my last child two years ago, my cirvix slid out the opening of my vagina. all the hospital did was push it back up. i am now currently 23 weeks pregnate and i have not informed my doctor yet, about my prolapsed uterus. what i want to know is what are my chances of haveing to have a c_section?

Answer
Hi Margaret:  I would recommend that you discuss this issue with your OB (or midwife).  I wish I could answer you more satisfactorily with regards to the c-section question, but unfortunately, I just can't.  At this point, not even the medical community can say definitively that c-section "spares" the pelvic floor.  Still a topic of much heated debate, as well as the subject of ongoing research.

Again, I would discuss your individual situation with your doctor.  Hopefully together you can devise the best plan, FOR YOU.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, and wishing you all the best!

Warmly,
Cat
