Yasmin Pill: When Am I Protected from Pregnancy?
QuestionI have recently begun taking Yasmin, after years of not being on a Pill. How soon after starting am I safe from pregnancy? the reports are so conflicting...
thanks so much!
AnswerDear Irit,
As a general rule, you must be on any BCP consistently for at least one full week before considering yourself protected from pregnancy. However, I personally recommend using a back-up method of protection for the first full month of use when starting the BCP. Too many women have a really hard time getting used to taking that pill every day and will forget at least once in the first month. That is reason enough to use the back-up to me! Also, BCPs do not provide protection against STDs, so you should always use condoms if you are not in a monogamous, long-term relationship.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
